Как предложил пользователь B Layer в своем комментарии, вы можете указать имя поля с помощью nmcli.
Я думаю, наиболее подходящим полем в вашем случае являетсяGENERAL.STATE:
nmcli -f GENERAL.STATE con show {connection_name}
Для моего текущего соединения это дает:
GENERAL.STATE: activated
